The remake of Labi Siffre’s “Bless the Telephone” is a welcome departure from the rest of the album with minimal acoustics and additional vocals by Sal Masekela that channel Simon & Garfunkel. Food is indeed 'the real thing,' a satisfying album grounded by familiar funk, rooted in classic soul sounds and focused on the everyday rituals of life: eating, playing with the kids, fighting - and making up - with the significant other. On the one hand, there is Kelis Rogers, who first came to prominence singing the hook of Ol’ Dirty Bastard’s 1999 hit 'Got Your Money'. Kelis describes her sixth album as a kind of unspoken lovefest, involving two unlikely partners.

Recently Kelis stopped by The Breakfast Club to promote her new album, Food, which is in stores now as well as her new cooking show. On March 4, 2014, Kelis performed the entire album live for music critics at Metropolis Studios in London, UK.
